Wild Decision by the Fantastic Four

I watched the Fantastic Four movie at the weekend, it was not on my list of things to watch, but my little girl wanted to subscribe to Disney+ again to watch the Home Alones, and I saw it was there so thought i'd give it a go. I loved the MCU from the start with Iron Man through to Endgame, it was all done incredibly well, and we are unlikely to see anything on that scale again, or that captures the western hemisphere in the way that did, but since then the movies have been terrible so I have not followed along. However this was a rare occasion I thought I'd give it a watch and see what they were upto.

This is not a review of the movie, more of a review of one of the decisions made within the movie. Spoiler if you want to watch the movie...

There's a big bad guy heading towards earth, and he wants to eat our planet to feed is curded hunger. He comes across the fantastic four as they travel out to meet him, (for negotiations), and decides he will spare Earth, if they hand over their baby....

Now the Read family decide against that and head home. Which is understandable from the perspective of the parents. However upon telling the people of earth this, after some grumbles the people of earth get behind not handing this baby over, and instead trying to teleport earth to a totally different part of the universe so they can't be found.

I know its a movie, and I know I don't have any problems with giant earth eating monsters, but I couldnt' wrap my head around all of the people of earth agreeing to this potentially more dangerous science experiment. Like did Russia or China not pump the brakes on this????

i'll not tell you what happens as i've spoilt enough, but i couldn't get on board. It reminded me of that thought exercise of would you kill baby hitler, but this has even bigger stakes as its all of earth, and you aren't doing the killing, just the handing over... What do you think? could you hand over a baby to save earth?
